Planning Forecasts
Many business strategists/planners need to produce strategic projections of sales/demand/costs etc extending out 5-30 years & MEF can assist via:
Client Models - Freestanding or Linked to Global Model
Whilst long-range forecasting is fraught with uncertainty, MEF can assist in this process by providing consistent long-term macroeconomic projections/scenarios from its global econometric model. This ensures that client's long term assumptions about policy/other variables will feed through in a consistent & logical way to final forecast outcomes for their particular sector or area of interest. Optionally, scenario analysis can then be employed to explore key senstitivities in these tailiored, planning projections
Recent Work - Tailored Forecasts/Scenarios
- Exploring UK Macro/Fiscal Risk to 2030 - a niche economics/defence consultancy regularly commissions MEF to explore the macroeconomic risks that may undermine official macro/fiscal forecast made at Budget time. A range of macro scenarios then gives this firm a likely range of potential economic/fiscal outcomes to assist in its planning function to its specialist customers/suppliers to the public sector.
- 10-15 year Investment Planning: Utility Company - MEF provided a major water/utility company to provide long term growth & inflation projections which fed into the company's long term investment plan. In addition to providing some "central case" forecasts out 10 years for UK growth & inflation, MEF was also able to provide some variant forecasts which attempted to capture the likely range of potential economic outcomes. This allowed the company to pin down the likely range of macroeconomic outcomes for the UK economy in the longer term. Whilst any long-term projection is subject to error, the above exercise is an example of where macroeconomic forecasts/projections can attempt to eliminate unnecessary economic uncertainty.
