Recent Work - Integrated Forecast System: Client Satellite Model

MEF was recently commissioned to explore the possibility of constructing a small property sector model for the UK covering various property categories. But as property supply & demand is driven by a number of (global) macroeconomic variables (eg global long term interest rates, exchange rates) the client was keen that their satellite property model was set up in a system that automatically red in these "exogenous" forecast inputs. As the client also had strong views on these global macroeconomic drivers, MEF suggested a bespoke global forecast ,outputs from which could then automatically feed into the satellite model. With such an integrated forecast system, the client need just specify their latest views on (global) macroeconomic drivers & the automated forecast system will then produce consistent forecasts for property yields etc contingent upon the original client inputs for global macroeconomic drivers. Any (global) scenarios run (eg +$35pb on the oil price) will then also feed through consistently all the way to forecasts for property variables etc. In this way, the client can demonstrate both an awareness of global macroeconomic risks as well as attempting the quantify the impact of such risks for their particular sector of interest.
